The SA museum has significantly contributed to my research and I have much appreciated the generosity of SAM staff. The work of SAM researchers and collection managers needs support and funding not detrimental cuts

There's a 'spill and fill' process going on at the South Australian Museum at the moment.

Existing collection manager positions & research positions are being disestablished. We're not sure what will replace them.

Worried? Rally on the steps of Parliament, this Sat 11 a.m.!

My friend Jessie Treloar skillfully put together some info about how you can do this (thanks Jessie!): reddit.com/.../letter_to_…

Help keep science alive at the South Australian Museum.

Please, if you can, consider attending the protest in Adelaide this weekend: fb.me/e/1QzBbCajME

Or, you can write to write to our local government representatives. (4/5)

The proposed changes place in jeopardy the integrity of our collections and our stories. In our changing world, this matters now more than ever. Many articles have put this into words better than I can: tinyurl.com/yc8cxrre (3/5)

Quite frankly, the plan is an outrage and an embarrassment. It will mean people will not get to have the same opportunities that I did. Further, museums are **so much more** than front-of-house and exhibits. As South Australians, this museum preserves our state history. (2/5)

An old photo. I was finishing my PhD at South Australian Museum. I hold this museum near and dear to my heart. Without the opportunities given to me by the museum & its research staff, I would not be where I am today.
That's why I am so heartbroken by the proposed 'restructure' for SAM. (1/5)

Scientists thought dry conditions prevailed in ice ages.

However, write Rieneke Weij (@UCT_news) + colleagues (@UniMelb, Uni of Adelaide), water was relatively abundant in much of the southern hemisphere during ice ages – despite cold temperatures. theconversation.com/ice-ages-were-…

πŸ“’Our new paper in nature challenges the glacial aridity paradigm by showing that:

Ice ages (glacials) in the Southern Hemisphere subtropics were much wetter than previously thought, including the Last Glacial Maximum!

See long 🧡on why this matters!

in our new nature paper, we draw attention to an aspect of Pleistocene glacial climates that has been largely concealed: because of the effect of low atmospheric CO2 on C3 plant growth, low biological productivity (i.e. suppressed tree growth) may misleadingly suggest aridity
