Walking home along the ring road in Norwich today we were rewarded with a beautiful Sycamore caterpillar wandering along the pavement (relocated to safety) and Volucella zonaria and Colletes hederae on Ivy flowers hanging over a wall.

An additional NNNS event for September! We will be visiting Crows Farm at Burgh Castle (NR31 9QN) on Sat 21st Sept 2024 from 10:30 to look at work going on to improve biodiversity and to record some of the wildlife already there. Park considerately in the farmyard at TG492053.

The first arrivals of a minimum 53 Cattle Egrets stooging on Pat's Pool earlier tonight (a flock of 30+ came in from the Freshes later). Joining the throng, 2 Spoonbills, a couple of Great White Egrets & 20 Little Egrets. I'm getting used to it all now, excitement undiminshed.

Today's pavement caterpillar is Toadflax Brocade, found on a Purple Toadflax plant growing out of a crack in the pavement a couple of minutes walk from home.

Can you top finding an 'extinct' moth in the trap?? ... well I guess finding an adult near it's food plant and apparent signs of munching might just do it - I think the Norfolk Snout is back (assuming it ever if went away?)

A shock contender for the CMO Moth of the Year this morning & another OMG moment for Lynnette "we've got a Rhubarb & Custard!!!" Another epic NFG of a rare moth in TG04, this is Oncocera semirubella ~ the Rosy Knot-horn. You just gotta love a moth with three names! #cleymothobs
