Joe’s not wrong… Instead of a thoughtful response from a mature leader, we had a mayor (with sole authority over the Minneapolis Police Department) who hid from difficult conversations and got re-elected by fear mongering.

Now we’re in a real mess…

This is pretty shocking tbh. The City clearly needs an encampment policy. Per usual, CMs stepped in to fill a leadership gap and initiated the process based on good policymaking processes (gather data). Only to be vetoed based on Strong Mayor grounds? So what's the plan instead?

Brian O'Hara seems like the real deal and I hope the mayor gives him the autonomy to make some of the changes he's spoken to.

We need to hold him accountable as police chief, but I've been very impressed with Brian O'Hara so far.

This would be a very different approach to policing in Minneapolis.

I had the opportunity to speak with Brian O’Hara a few weeks ago and he struck me as sincere about change. To Robin’s point later in the thread, it’s up to us to hold him to these statements.
