Perhaps if child development was mandatory in teacher training, this poor understanding of children would diminish. A recognition that focusing solely on the academic aspect of the child and ignoring the emotional aspect is always going to have negative effects on wellbeing.

So many gentle well behaved XL Bully Dogs now facing death as a result of a knee jerk breed ban that won’t make people safer but will significantly increase animal suffering. I will discuss with Peter Cardwell on TalkTV Sunday at 11am tune in

In order for much needed change to happen within the education system to benefit staff and pupils, the system needs to recognise its own shortcomings, rather than continuing the narrative of blaming anything and everyone else.

This is such an easy way to fix a lot of the school persistent absences is to make school more meaningful for young people! So many including my own kids say a lot of it is boring and pointless. These are active, inquisitive & creative kids that have better stuff to do at home!

Parents, take five minutes today to reflect on everything you do to support the young people in your life. What you do often goes unnoticed. Give yourself some credit. Write it down if that helps. And try not to loose sight of that whenever you go through difficult moments.

Sebastien Chapleau Mark Moorhouse Many of our Not Fine in School families experience this not just weekly, but daily and even several times a day, such is the overstep in the ‘war’ on attendance. 😔

This is a really encouraging development.

What we know about education today is that:
A great many children are struggling.
Schools are stretched thin.
More and more children are falling out of the system.
Many families would welcome something different.

Children as young as 4,5 and 6 are restrained by staff in order to get them 'in' to school.

Surely if staff are using RPI to take an anxious, frightened child from their parents this is a sign of a serious problem?

That is NOT 'a last resort'

I was so moved by this post having had a similar experience. I drafted this for parents to send to their school if it's of any use. Of course details would need to be changed, but it's written in a spirit of solidarity for all parents of children with EBSA.

Here's a message from a parent in a community I belong to, for parents whose children are struggling.

The 'advice' here isn't uncommon.
It is, however, wrong & very dangerous.

It's like making a child stare at a fire & thinking they'll eventually want to walk into the flames.
