Yesterday, we commemorated a pivotal moment in history when the world's attention was drawn to the HIV/AIDS epidemic. It was on this day in 1984 that US Secretary of Health and Human Services Margaret Heckler announced the discovery of the virus that would later be named HIV.

Reaching underserved key populations (KP) is critical to advancing the global #HIV response.

#PEPFAR is deepening KP support by:

➡️Accelerating differentiated HIV services
➡️Bolstering KP-led orgs for effective HIV responses
➡️Generating better data to guide KP HIV programs

It is important for all of us to remember that you cannot have diagnosis without lab and you cannot have a disease response without lab. #PEPFAR remains committed to laboratory strengthening.

Today is #WorldLabDay ! CDC labs are essential for detecting and monitoring diseases, helping to prevent their spread, and protecting health worldwide. In 2023, CDC supported more than 11,000 labs and testing sites across PEPFAR countries.
