The 1st Armoured Division arrived in Normandy #OTD in 1944. Under the command of Gen. Maczek, it joined the Allies in the fight against Germany in the following days. This unit managed to liberate many towns and villages in Belgium and the Netherlands.

Today marks the 81st anniversary of the uprising at the German Nazi extermination camp Treblinka. Several hundred prisoners escaped from the site of murder of between 700,000 and 900,000 Jews. The last survivor of the uprising, Samuel Willenberg, died in Tel Aviv in 2016.

Today, Deputy FM Władysław T. Bartoszewski attended the Roma and Sinti Holocaust Remembrance Day ceremony. On 2 August, we remember the thousands of Roma and Sinti men, women, and children murdered in the German Nazi extermination camp Auschwitz-Birkenau and other sites of genocide.

Today, we commemorate #BlackRibbonDay. It was set on the anniversary of the Ribbentrop-Molotov Pact signing, which tore apart Central and Eastern Europe between Nazi Germany and the Soviet Union. We honour those who died under Soviet and Nazi German terror.
