I've been teaching vertigo this way for more than a decade. We need to be recognize BPPV, vestibular neuritis and dizzy strokes. I called it "The Big 3 of Vertigo" youtu.be/MwbqJvMDonU

Why do we hate vertigo? In 1985 I certainly did. But look at this table in the vertigo chapter of the Rosen's edition I studied then! I was programmed to hate vertigo! Luckily, I started reading outside the emergency medicine literature, and found the truth.

Me teaching the Head Impulse Test part of the HINTS exam at Broward Medical Centre in Ft. Lauderdale Florida a couple of days ago. You really have to hold their skull firmly! #HINTS #FOAMed

Another fantastic grand rounds! Thank you @peterjohns84 for taking the time to lecture on the diagnosis & stratification of “dizziness” & vertigo in the ED. We have become more confident in our HINTS assessment, BPPV treatment, & use of brain CTs because of it

I recently gave a lecture at Broward Medical Centre in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, and I was asked about how you know if the patient was better after the Epley. So here is my answer. #FOAMed youtu.be/_oerLbKt530

So this paper shows that if you test young healthy people with a DEEP Dix-Hallpike on a mechanical chair, and remove fixation, they won't get symptoms of BPPV, but will get slow persistent nystagmus not typical of BPPV. Not sure how this helps. read.qxmd.com/read/38300312/…

Do you hate picking up the 'dizziness' charts because you have uncertainty around posterior strokes/the workup or identification? Its complicated, its nuanced, its.. DIZZYING (don't @ us). So Dr. Kate O’Connell has gone and simplified it for us: emottawablog.com/2024/03/poster…

I was recently sent this article, which is a heartbreaking account of the effects of dizziness and mental health. My thoughts will be on John Balson this week as I attend the Barany conference to discuss how we can improve care for people like him. theguardian.com/tv-and-radio/a…

Just posted this new video on some old myths. Vertical nystagmus is not always bad! Anda positive Dix-Hallpike test is not when you see horizontal nystagmus !youtu.be/wE-lTDWjeu4
