Labour’s Kim McGuinness has won North East mayoral election, defeating former Labour mayor Jamie Driscoll, who was barred from running as party’s candidate amid accusations of factionalism, by almost 60,000 votes.

Labour candidate David Skaith has won new York & North Yorkshire mayoral race. It's particularly significant because it's in Rishi Sunak's backyard - his Richmond seat is within new combined authority's boundaries.
