On September 1st, 1939, German troops invaded 🇵🇱 from land, air, and sea, marking the start of the deadliest conflict in world history.

Today we pay respect to those who suffered under German Nazi and Soviet terror.

We shall never forget the price they paid for freedom.

Today Poland celebrates the Polish Independence Struggle Veterans’ Day – dedicated to all 🇵🇱 soldiers who defended the country’s independence and fought for freedom during #WWII . We thank all those who sacrificed their lives so that 🇵🇱 could be free again.

#WorldWarII began #OTD in 1939 with Germany's aggression against #Poland . The invasion of Poland was the result of a secret agreement between Adolf Hitler's Third Reich and Joseph Stalin's USSR.

We pay tribute to the victims of the greatest armed conflict in the history.🕯️

PM Mateusz Morawiecki: 84 years after the outbreak of #WorldWarII , when we talk about executioners, victims, punishment and suffering, when we use the most important words like good and truth, we demand not only memory, not only truth. We demand reparation.

PM Mateusz Morawiecki: Today, Poland and Germany are partners in the European Union, but in order for us to function normally in the future, we must close this black chapter of #WorldWarII .

PM Mateusz Morawiecki: Today we live in free Poland, but then we lost our development opportunities forever. #WorldWarII decided who is the winner and who has to chase the stolen time of the past. We have to ask ourselves: Can a reconciliation between partners without reparation exist?

PM Mateusz Morawiecki: #WorldWarII began in Wieluń when Luftwaffe planes dropped bombs on the innocent city. The German Third Reich wanted to destroy the Polish state and nation. The hecatomb that began then led to dramatic consequences that have not been overcome to this day.

✈️🇵🇱 The #PolishAviationDay is celebrated in military and civil #aviation on the anniversary of the victory of Franciszek Żwirko and Stanisław Wigura in the largest interwar sport aviation event (Challenge International des Avions de Tourisme) #OTD in 1932 in Berlin.

#OTD in 1946, the death sentence was carried out on Danuta Siedzikówna, a 17-year-old nurse from the #HomeArmy 5th Vilnius Brigade, fighting against the #communist regime after #WWII .

This verdict became a symbol of the brutality of the communist courts.

The number of people crossing the Polish-Ukrainian border has reached 15 million. The vast majority of them are women and children.

Karolina Lanckorońska taught history at the University of Lwów until WW2's onset. Then she joined resistance, got arrested and put in the KL Ravensbrück.
After war, she moved to Italy.
In 1994, she donated art from her family collection to Polish museums.
She died #OTD in 2002.

Apples are the most famous Polish fruit in the world. In July, #Poland exported almost 13,500 tons of apples to 19 countries outside the European Union, most to Asia.
