April 25th 1982: The White Ensign and Union Jack are run up as the Argentine flag is taken down. Major Guy Sheridan sends a now famous message to London: 'Be pleased to inform Her Majesty that the White Ensign flies alongside the Union Jack in South Georgia. God save the Queen.'

April 25th 1982: The Argentine garrison raises the white flag as British forces approach, and surrender to elements of M Coy 42 Cdo. In all, 137 soldiers are captured along with the crew of ARA Santa Fe.

April 25th 1982: HMS Plymouth & HMS Antrim open up with their four 4 5' guns as British troops move in. It is more to produce a 'shock and awe' effect on the Argentine troops and to keep their heads down as the scratch British force advances on the garrison.

April 25th 1982: Counting on the Argentine forces being demoralised, it is decided to launch the attack immediately with a scratch force of just 79 men: Commanders & mortar troop from M Coy 42 Cdo, NGOs from 148 Bty plus two SAS troops & two SBS commands, gathering on HMS Antrim.
