Incredibly sad to hear my colleague and friend Nicky Gavron has passed. Nicky devoted her life to public service in London. She served as Deputy Mayor from 2000-2003 and again from 2004-2008. She was a London Assembly Member from its inception in 2000 up until 2021. 1/3

So sad to hear the news about Nicky Gavron. She was a long standing and tireless advocate for tackling climate change and investing in social housing, a good friend and a determined campaigner. Thinking of her family at this sad time.

Great to back at the Barbican summer garden party today and catch up with local residents and common councillors. Good to hear about the great work of local carers group, BarbicanQuarterAction and Age UK in the City and make plans for working together.

Today I speak directly to the bereaved families, the survivors, and those in the Grenfell community. On behalf of the British state: I am deeply sorry. My full statement.

Today I’m thinking of the victims and survivors of the Grenfell Tower tragedy, their friends, family and community. On this painful day, we must all recommit to delivering justice for these families and changing the culture which led to this devastating tragedy.
