This piece is well worth your time. Learn about #MedicaidDivorce and bipartisan legislation in the Senate to help #DemolishDisabledPoverty
Rebecca Cokley Two people close to me had to rupture their marriages for medical coverage… one thing that’s rarely discussed is how it functions in family and community… where folks run with narratives/behaviors about “why” the divorces happened.
There’s so much unspoken collateral damage.
In 1961, I became the 1st Black woman hired at the The Washington Post. The amount of racism & prejudice I dealt with would make most QUIT. I persevered. I’m excited to see young journalists push past fear to report news NOW! Silence doesn’t solve problems, action solves problems!
I had never heard the term ' #MedicaidDivorce ' before the last few years.
The idea that families are forced to choose between each other and health care, is unacceptable.

Robyn Powell So frustrating! I hate that accessibilty is something that continuously gets swept under the rug. It's as if the world think they’re doing enough by allowing us (disabled people) to be present.
And the “I didn't know” isn’t a lifetime membership card.
I hate how #inaccessible access is... I can't use the Yale University accessible shuttle without a medical note stating I use a wheelchair...but I'm new to the USA, so the earliest appt I could get was 2 months after my start date. I can't get into the office... 1/
I sat down with John Fetterman to discuss his use of captioning technology, why it's no different than people with disabilities who use glasses and how his disability helped him understand @GiseleFetterman's ADHD. I have wanted to do this piece for a year.

Day 4 of #DwarfismAwarenessMonth
Let's break stereotypes and build each other up! It's never okay to undermine someone because of their height or other differences. Everyone deserves respect and a chance to shine. #RespectDiversity #inclusion
'Disabled voters are not widely recognized by politicians as a distinct group to be served as a constituency and courted as a voting bloc, even though 27% of American adults have a disability.'

'Asset limits are abjectly anti-family. These antiquated restrictions can force families to have to make unthinkable choices to maintain what little financial security they have.'

(3/4) Shoutout to Jasmine E Harris, Elizabeth Emens, and numerous other scholars for their amicus brief in the case: law.upenn.edu/live/news/1621…
Tester standing is a critical tool for enforcement of civil rights laws. Don’t be lulled into complacency. The cases heard by #SCOTUS this term may seem sleepy, but they have huge implications for racial & social justice. Read the ACLU Legal Defense Fund brief aclu.org/cases/acheson-…
Friends of ours just welcomed new baby.
Which means it’s time to do one of my favorite things—build a library.
And I do what I always do, which is reach out to Harriett’s Bookshop and pull together a list of the best baby/childrens books via Bookshop.org US
(I ❤️ Harriett’s)
“What does it mean when people with disabilities are prohibited from saving money?…It means people with disabilities and their families are one broken wheelchair, one computer virus, one crisis away from falling off a cliff..” Rebecca Cokley
