I downloaded 🧵, though I’m mostly active at 📷. reneeblute in both places. When I do check *this* app, it’s suddenly all Newsm@x ads and unsolicited Elon tweets, and both are awful. New book out next June, new ducks in my garage.

I barely tweet but this one is IMPORTANT. Halloween season begins in two months and so obviously I’ve started spooky book hunting, and I just found out that Ray Bradbury has a Halloween middle grade novel.

It’s and starts in my small town in Western MA. We had no bookstores, but my school had a vast library of books, all donated by Stephen and Tabitha King. I read EVERYTHING. I wouldn’t be writing books now if I hadn’t loved reading them first.

As I work through this draft of my Oregon makeup cult middle grade novel, I ask myself: “Will you *ever* write an mg novel that doesn’t have a sweet little barely-there romance in the background between two supporting adult characters?” And the answer is no, probably not.

Watching Emily with Zach Lute and every time Emily Brontë sits down to write, my husband narrates what he believes to be the first line of Wuthering Heights: “The heights…were wuthering.” 🪶

Our school district released this proclamation today, and it’s a really great opportunity to talk about what not to do this April. No “lighting it up blue,” no ABA, and Kent School District - I encourage YOU to “take time to learn about autism.” From autistic people only, please.

I’m almost finished with Emily Wilde’s Encyclopedia of Faeries by Heather Fawcett, and I need recommendations for similar books STAT. I don’t say this lightly, but I’m in New Favorite Book territory for the first time in like a decade.

My DMs are absolutely full of librarians (the best possible people to have in your DMs!) requesting the file we made. I think I’m caught up, but if I’ve missed you, please let me know! And if you’d like the file, just send me your email address, and I’m happy to send it along! 📚

Two years ago I posted this on Facebook, and today I’m beginning revisions post-editorial letter, because this bad boy is coming out next year from Quill Tree Books. Dreams come true, especially if they’re about truck stops. (Maximum Overdrive was the #1 rec in those comments.)

Husband is reading my middle grade WIP for the first time, absolutely clacking away in track changes. Finally I say, “exCUSE me,” and he says, “you’ve got me reading it on a picky day, Renee. That’s the problem.” Zach Lute
