So, a few years back, my wife recorded me snoring. I sort of blew it off and got angry (“ya, ok, I know I need to lose a few and maybe that’ll fix it”). Anyway, it turns out I didn’t really need 5-10 cups of coffee a day, I just needed to not have an AHI of 16.

A moving and instructive story. For patients I diagnose with CJD I usually say something like “I am sorry I cannot take this away, it will progress and it is always a fatal condition” … “I don’t know how long this will take with any certainty”… “we can help with…”

Jesus dude just say you can’t finish the series you’re getting tiresome. What’s gone wrong is you can start a series but can’t finish one.

I strongly agree with this. The best undergrad course in scientific thinking I took was called “belief in weird things” and it was easily as important to my intellectual development as a physician as any pre-req for med school.

The concept of "western medicine" is wrong. Scientific medicine: 1) Is global 2) Has a relevant western history, but some critical developments were done outside of "the West" 2) Western traditions include not only science, but also homeopathy, osteopathy, Scientology, etc

One time, I pulled my resident aside after a tough day in regional anesthesia I asked the same first question I always ask when a trainee is struggling, “How are you doing? How are things at home?” The answer is usually, “I’m fine” This time the answer was “I have cancer”

If anyone has to see t swift in the future for cognitive problems you’re gonna want to use vegetables or something. Pretty sure she scored normal for animal fluency using just cats. Absolute queen.

Now that death certificates have to be completed digitally the cause of death is whatever the computer will accept in order to let you move on. Can’t tell you how many diagnoses the system finds a problem with. Guarantee you these are less accurate now.

The amount of “ffs what do I have to click to make this dumb screen go away and do the 150% of a clinical job these ghouls think is a normal patient panel” is so immense and why I have *profound* trust issues with almost all EMR data
