We and our fellow labs had a great time at the UNC Science Expo this weekend sharing our science with the community! We had microscopes available for folks to learn about the use of model organisms and fluorescence in science. Even Ramses came to learn about "glowing worms"!

Attention soon-to-be and recent graduates: The Brennwald and Baker labs are UNC Chapel Hill are hiring a joint research technician! This is a unique opportunity to gain skills in molecular biology, genetics, and structural biology while working in two very supportive labs 🎉🔬

Be curious. Pay attention. You may not be able to impress with knowledge and experience but you can impress with enthusiasm and attention. Mentors are paying attention to this. Most important: discover or confirm your passions for science.

I’m happy to announce our collaborative work with Villeda Lab, where we found that we can rejuvenate memory in 2 yr old (!!!) mice by activating a conserved Gaq protein in the hippocampus. TWO YEAR OLD MICE! (like a 70-80yo human) biorxiv.org/content/10.110…

My labmate Addie (Coke) Schlachter was one of three phenomenal student speakers at today’s inaugural UNC_Biology Flash Talk event. Such a great turnout! What an awesome opportunity to build community within the department - and to learn about some incredible science too! #WomenInSTEM

The world is full of amazing things. Hiding in the human microbiome is a crazy new class of "viroids", small virus-like parasites--perhaps the first not found in a eukaryotes. 1/3 biorxiv.org/content/10.110…
