RIP Dianne Crittenden, casting director par excellence. An early supporter, Dianne championed me for a co-starring role in Bob Rafelson’s STAY HUNGRY with Jeff Bridges, Sally Field, and Arnold Schwarzenegger. I will always be grateful for her encouragement.

RIP Sam Rubin. Sam always took the drudgery out of a press junket. He could talk to you about anything, from hamburgers to Hamlet, always with his sincere, unique energy. He was perfectly cast as a talk show host in Wes Craven’s NEW NIGHTMARE. And always a pleasure to work with.

RIP Donald Sutherland. Certainly one of the greatest filmographies in Hollywood history. DIRTY DOZEN, M*A*S*H, DON’T LOOK BACK, KLUTE, Fellini’s CASANOVA, Bertolucci’s 1900, INVASION OF THE BODY SNATCHERS and so many more. A favorite actor of mine. Such a loss.

Let’s hear it for summer Sci Fi flicks! So far I’ve traveled to 3 distinct imaginary worlds: the sand-blown landscapes and flying machines of DUNE 2, the post-apocalyptic backroads of FURIOSA and the lush jungle-gym dwellings and shipwrecks of KINGDOM OF THE PLANET OF THE APES.
