Blue Eye Samurai is laser-focused on Mizu’s internal and interpersonal conflict over her mixed heritage and how it Others her. some art dissects tropes that make the viewer uncomfortable. it works because the creators are exploring their own feelings and hangups in their art.

RPG-writing motivator: Raymond Chandler on mysteries “the demand was for constant action; if you stopped to think you were lost. When in doubt have a man come through a door with a gun in his hand. This could get to be pretty silly, but somehow it didn't seem to matter.” 1/4

We didn’t. Employers got scared they were losing control. Commercial real estate was buckling. The economy around commuting was crumbling and they were losing too much money.

the parasocial relationship fans have with Dropout is kinda on par with Disney adults and the Walt Disney corporation and I think as Dropout grows bigger and bigger, we need to sit down and examine this relationship

madeleine 🔜 big bad con It stresses me out how much making it big in any industry seems to depend on cultivating a quasi-religious zeal in the people you are selling things to

tonight I hang out with 200+ YIMBY dorks to kvetch about how The Car was sort of the One Ring of Detroit: seemed like a boon at the time, now just presaged by toxic black fumes and high-pitched screaming sounds

An evil surgeon carved a permanent smile onto the face of the tragic hero of The Man Who Laughs (1928), the inspiration for the Joker. The Batman Who Laughs, an alt-reality mad Bruce Wayne, could have been an ICONIC nod. Instead he looks and was written like a 90s Spawn reject

People have been saying this for over 100 years. How does anyone think the population of Detroit grew from 285,704 to 1,568,662 in just 30 YEARS?? Here's a hint, it wasn't because of record birth rates. People migrated to Michigan, often with little money, for a better life.
