Ask some of Australia's journalists and politicians and they will madly, rabidly, consistently insist it's social media that threatens democracy.

Which tells you everything you need to know.

'There was a gasp that went around the room when we realised the rising costs of the NDIS', Sarah Ferguson on ABC News Does anyone else see the problem of having this repeatedly brought up without any disabled people on the panel?

The big lie. The NDIS generates $2.25 in the economy for every $1 spent. It’s an industry that employs people who in turn pay taxes and spend. Can someone pull these fools up on their lies? The NDIS MAKES MONEY FOR THE GOVT BY GENERATING INDUSTRY FFS nds.org.au/news/new-model…

Stephen Duckett I am working my way through a PhD. I am very wary of making conclusions that my data does not support. Dr Margaret Faux media statements are a major over-reach & lack scholarship. Qualitative statements needs a qualitative methodology.

Ronni Salt The Today Show Aside from the lack of anything credible in this “interview”, I wonder what the reaction would be if it had been a male journalist speaking to a female treasurer, showing her a clip of a similar movie scene and suggesting she should replicate it on the spot??

Or to put it another way - getting good policy from a govt is like pushing a car that has run out of petrol. At least progressives no longer have a govt that also has its foot jammed on the brake. But the hard work remains.

Do not say 'whatabout the LNP?'. They are not the bar. The bar that needs to be cleared is good progressive policies. Don't settle.

Joint Australian Centre for International Justice + Human Rights Law Centre statement on the prosecution of David McBride, which begins tomorrow. There is no public interest in prosecuting whistleblowers; the case should be dropped so the govt can focus on reckoning with our actions in Afghanistan hrlc.org.au/news/2022/10/2…

There we have it. $1.9 billion dollars of public money committed in the first Albanese/ Chalmers/ Gallagher for a gas and petrochemical zone in Darwin that will accelerate the Beetaloo Basin, pushing up emissions and toxic pollutants that will threaten cancer.

marquelawyers An inquisitorial system (such as in Europe) rather than an adversarial system would go a long way to alleviating these ills imho.

Recent criminal cases have demonstrated amply just how unfit for the purpose of dealing with alleged crimes of sexual violence our justice system is. Ignore the guilty/not guilty binary; this is simply a question of social utility. We are torturing trauma victims for no benefit.
