Surrounded by some of our u16 lads, I got directed to the girls’ pitch today. I hadn’t asked for directions. I wasn’t coaching a girls’ team. We need more female coaches in the game. Nearly 9 years on, and I’ve never met (or seen) another female coach at an 11v11 match ..

Watching our adult session tonight really brought home to me how, as a game, we’ve sadly created a warped model where players exist to serve the needs of coaches & clubs, not the other way around. Let’s turn that on its head….. The game belongs to the players!

Players aren't objects in the games WE want to see played. They don't exist just to meet the needs of OUR session plans. OUR view of what 'works' is pretty meaningless if they're not being asked for theirs. If we're talking about 'I' and not THEM, we've got it all wrong.
