This is very good. You can see how modern defences don't defend passively but actually force the attack to make decisions or to head where the defence want them to do.

A much much worse performance this week from Scarlets. Some truly stupid penalties and could have been more. No creativity and no platform either.

It's a big worry.

This Scarlets lineout really really isn't good enough. None of the fancy Scarlets rugby can happen unless you can hold onto the ball

This could sound patronising but I mean it genuinely. Conbeer's work rate sprinting up and down that wing has been crucial to the Scarlet's kicking game. He's not giving Connacht any time to pick their kicks.

Perfect example of why you kick there in CONvSCA. Sure, the kick battle was a little long but I'd rather that than six lineouts one after the other after the other.

In these conditions, you'd be stupid to do anything else!

When I eventually go to Connacht I'd want to watch a game in these conditions....it would feel weird to watch in dry weather...

The lineout is a great battleground because you can put your players wherever you want. Expect to see teams do more to cause confusion in this area and if you want to see how this works in the URC then follow the link!

It's a brilliant way to run lineouts. It's amazing that you don't see more teams using this set-up. Although, maybe we will now?

That's good, that's what you want them to do, however it can have the effect of defenders getting too smart and trying to defend the abnormal as the normal just flies by them and the maul gets going.

The key is to keep the opposition guessing. Exactly the same set-up here - nine in the lineout and winger as the nine - but Montpellier maul it effectively here.
When I watched the US training in 2019 they were constantly communicating when a nine was in the LO.

This is an added crinkle that I've very rarely seen before. Montpellier put a nine at the front of the lineout (standard) but they also put a winger in the nine position (not standard). Note what happens when you have that many dynamic moving parts in a lineout.
