There's not always a lot of love for Cockchafers, (Maybugs), but this one from the garden this morning, appropriately May 1st, looked like it was asking for a hug.😆

This was a nice surprise! Scarce Fungus Weevil to light in our Yorkshire garden last night. Amazing creatures.

The incredible, feathered antennae of the male Emperor Moth, which can detect the pheromone scent of a female over long distances.

The sunshine brought the Shieldbugs out today. I picked a few up as I walked across the garden. Six species, Hairy, Green, Brassica, Bishop's Mitre, Forget-me-Not and Scarab. Nice to see a size comparison. 🙂

The garden pond is dotted with newly emerged Four-spotted Chasers unable to fly because of the torrential rain. This one on Bogbean, waiting for the weather to change. #Austerfield #Bawtry

Lots of Early Purple Orchids amongst carpets of Bluebells in the woods today. Some nice colour forms.

A dream day! Finally got to see Mark Frith's amazing, drawings of ancient Oaks. Incredibly detailed artwork. The Major Oak was part of the exhibition at the Harley Gallery in the historic Welbeck Estate. Finished off the day by visiting the actual tree in nearby Sherwood Forest.

The first Scarab and Brassica Shieldbugs I've seen in our Yorks. garden this year. Pied Shieldbug has been the most numerous species since the middle of March, and seem to be everywhere.
