Over the last 10 yrs, we have 15K more students and only 10 more teachers… Yes, we need capital investment for renovated or new schools. But, we need operating budget increases above enrolment and inflation rates for there to be a real investment in students and education.

Thank you STA for having me at your convention. As STA President (Jessica Brown) said “Teacher participation equals teacher power”. Many voices with the same message can create the change students and teachers need and deserve. #SkEd

School divisions continue to speak out about budgetary challenges they're facing this school year. Some are having to cut supports or dip into reserves. Why is the government *still* shortchanging our kids? Sign up to support students and teachers: TellThemTuesday.com

Many believe that large classes are only an issue in urban areas. Unfortunately, many rural areas are seeing large class sizes too. And both areas are seeing more multi-grade or multi-curricular classes.

Nowadays, kids are more likely to be called to class by an electronic bell than the hand-rung variety that brought the students of yesteryear into school. Not the case for those attending Delisle Elementary School in 1980! 🔔 Thanks to STF Records and Archives for this #tbt.

Poor Hugo is just the tip of the iceberg. For every child needing to stay home, there are dozens more at school with unsafe levels of supervision due to the chronic underfunding and understaffing. Heartbreaking consequences have happened before and more seem inevitable 💔

Heartbreaking, Infuriating, inexcusable. Dr. Ogieglo is correct- this experience is not unique. We have talked about triaging supports in schools, this shows the crisis caused by chronic underfunding. No child should be denied the supports they require to receive an education.
