Speed & Power of the Peregrine. Remember seeing a local one in the early 1990’s - it was one of the highlight of the year ! Now see them week in week out at random, even from the back door :-)

Randoms today / this evening Can see x3 Peregrine nest sites around town from the vantage point in pic1. Watched a Buck, Doe & 2 full grown young Roe for 20 mins. Julie gave them names but I’m sure she’d still be able to eat most of Karl’s 🦌family 🤓

Love this time of year when everything is dry underfoot & the countryside looks like a giant colourful quilt (chilly mind, 4 degrees is 20 down on last weeks high)

There’s a reason this corner of the industrial estate hadn’t been built on. There’s a spring in the corner, no amount of bulldozing & road planings will stop it flowing. Previously a great site for Dingy Skipper & JackSnipe et al, perhaps they’ll come back??

We’ve been watching & photograping Water Rails here from rudimentary screens/hides for c16 years. Has anyone else had Water Rail reply to GSWoodpecker calls ? Both quite similar... 🧐

Huge new electric vehicle battery gigafactory approved for Sunderland The thing that grates me about these developments is the acres of land devoted to grass, driveways, non native shrubbery & dreary lines of heavy standard trees Peter Collins Wallsend Wildlife

We've studied & recorded 33 pairs of Little Owl within 3km of home at HLSpring That figure was down to around a dozen by 2019 (63% Loss). In 2024 we have 7 pairs in that 3km radius now (78% Loss) all bar 1 pair are to the West of town in mixed farmland setting Paul Riddle

Good news in the Evans household. Flintstone has had his bandage changed & is healing well. All being well he’ll be signed off on Friday. ☺️

An excellent encounter caught by Steve Raine Seeing them dance infront of Rabbits is standard practice, but climbing Bulrushes & back flipping for the Ducks not such a familiar sight ! 😀

On standing waters we are nowadays more likely to find Gadwall than we are the traditional Mallard, which have dropped off. We didn’t see Gadwall appear locally till late 80’s early 90’s However Mallard no’s on running waters appear unchanged 🧐
