Thanks to Jamila Dugan for sharing this piece exposing the epistemology of learning loss, e.g.
- a single decimal point math score increase is an exciting target
- we must use 'every minute' of classroom time 'productively'
- teachers need 'less autonomy'

People want “informative” when what they need is “mind-shifting.”

Your body already has all the wisdom. You are simply too exhausted to connect and hear it.

What data matters to me as a parent?
☑️ Are my babies happy at school? Are they well?
☑️ Do they feel a sense of belonging?
☑️ When they are struggling, can they get support and care?
☑️ Are they reading and writing about culturally relevant content?
☑️ Do people believe in them?

“She sees the treatment of Black & Indigenous people as a bellwether for how justly society is functioning overall, & stressed that everyone would benefit from questioning attitudes around work and productivity.”

Shane Safir Jamila Dugan Denise Augustine Alcine Mumby What a dope episode! The theme of cultural humility came through so powerfully for me. I reflected on what I thought I knew would be good for my Black and Latine students, which were assumptions that I had to check the hard way.
