We just heard from Pepa! She's still in Florida, and is doing just dandy! Pepa nests at Wasaga Beach, often with great success. Last year she fledged 3 young! Can't wait to welcome her back. Thanks for sharing the sighting Lorraine!!

Curlew vs sheep. This ewe and her lamb were getting too close to a curlew nest. The male curlew performed a distraction display and successfully led the sheep away from the nest. Sheep can easily trample wader nests and have also been known to predate them. 1/2

Can't wait until it's time for chicks! Nests often hatch around fathers day weekend, so we've got some time yet.

In Tagus saltpans, the nests of Kentish plover are protected against predators. GPS tags, like the one in the back of this female, will show bird movements within the breeding season. Hayling Is Ringed Plovers update: after 3 nest failures at egg stage I can report a further 3, at least sitting, and 2 oystercatcher chicks running around. A grand job by the RSPB project team to get some temp fencing up, was needed for the nest on the landward side of enclosure
