Who is Sunak's position even meant to appeal to? Who's in the voter demographic which demands harsher treatment of UK allies in Afghanistan? Of all the obscene hills to die on.

Listen to this Victoria Derbyshire interview with an asylum seeker…

…it absolutely blows the Rwanda narrative out of the water. THIS is what has been entirely missing from the national conversation - the viewpoints and motivations of asylum seekers.

Rwanda: I write about possible legal challenges

In truth what the Act is doing is making it lawful to send people to Rwanda *whether it is safe or not*

Yes this is the basic contradiction in the policy. Rwanda must sound terrible to be a deterrent. But it cannot be considered terrible or else they'll look like bastards. It therefore exists in both states simultaneously.

No levelling up.
Brexit a total shitshow.
Public services in collapse.
Sewage catastrophe in our rivers.
No rent reform.
Councils bankrupt.
Childcare programme already under threat…
Why *every* excitable Tory announcement needs to be treated with total contempt and disbelief.

🧡 1. The Illegal Migration Act prohibits any person arriving illegally after 7 March 2023 from being granted asylum or legal status. One of three things can happen to them: (a) be removed to a third country, (b) voluntarily depart to their own country or (c) stay in the UK with

The whole spending projection is a complete fiction, so this latest briefing is also completely made up.

Politicians say they’ll do whatever it takes to stop the boats & the drownings.

But the one thing they won’t do is give people safe alternative ways to travel.
So we’ll always be waiting for the next tragedy.

Safe routes are the only thing that will stop the smugglers

Wait, what, Europe did something that favours Europe?

Shocker.

Exceptionalists really seem to think that Europe should act to benefit third countries, not it's members.

The Treasury is claiming that hitting the target of raising UK defence spending to 2.5% of GDP in 2030 amounts to a 'Β£75 billion increase'.

How do they get to this £75bn number? 🀨

...2) The assumption of flat cash spending for 6 years is dubious since that would have meant *falling* defence spending as a share of UK GDP, even taking it below 2%, which would have broken the 2023 pledge from all Nato members to spend that % at a minimum...8/9

...and a pretty tiresome political trick to to add spending increases up over multiple years, rather than state the cash increase in a given year, no doubt to make them sound bigger/more generous...7/9

Excellent photo.

But some of us are wondering: has Germany yet passed a law making it a β€œfact” that the UK is a safe country for refugees, regardless of current or future evidence to the contrary?

Exactly this. An abhorrent Bill (soon to be Act), to support an abhorrent and evil policy by a Government devoid of a moral compass. Shameful and not done in my name UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak

Reposting this. With the Bill due to become law in hours and US weapons starting to flow this week, America is back as a decisive force in European security unity (for now). It buys Ukraine a crucial year.
