Elizabeth (or Elisabeth) Silkton stitched this sampler in 1762, when she was 14. She worked the sampler at a school founded by Lady Elizabeth Howland in Streatham (then outside London) in the early 18th century. Elizabeth stitched her piece in honour of the school's benefactress

A stellar cast - John Gielgud, Edith Evans, Peggy Ashcroft and, in two small roles, Alec Guinness - opened on 27th April 1936 in Romeo And Juliet at #StreathamHillTheatre . #OTD
