“Triumphant” seems like a poor word choice for a president who lost that election and has since been convicted of 34 felonies, faces trial on more & was found liable for sexual assault & convicted of civil fraud. What was the “triumph”? Meeting with his GOP acolytes?

There's a long history of presidents with family members who get into trouble—from Alice Roosevelt to Donald Nixon to Billy Carter to Roger Clinton to Neil Bush—but Hunter Biden is the first immediate family member to be convicted of a crime while the president is still in office

Just hours after his son is convicted of lying on a gun purchase form, Joe Biden is speaking to Everytown's about the need for gun safety & expanded background checks.

I guess this is the 1 time the MAGA crowd celebrating Hunter Biden's conviction supports gun control.

Anyone who’s a parent knows it ain’t easy. Joe Biden has lost two children and now a third may go to prison. I can’t even imagine going through that.

Remarkably, GOP likely voters overwhelmingly believe the Biden administration was behind the NY DA charging Trump (there’s no evidence to support that at all, and plenty to the contrary), while Democrats & independents overwhelmingly disagree with that conspiracy theory.

New CBS News poll: Trump leads Biden 50-49% with likely voters nationally but Biden leads 50-49 in battleground states. In other words, it’s a tie. Trump’s conviction has very little impact. Biden has improved among women, independents and Black voters.

I remain flabbergasted that they got all this done in less than 3 months. Let’s hope someone revives the gorgeous, classic Wood Street train station in the background next!

At fundraiser today, Kamala Harris told donors 'We have 153 days left to get this done. And we are up  for it and we are going to win. We may have bloody knuckles at the end of it but we are going to win because it's not going to be easy,' per Joe Garofoli's pool report.

More @chase badness: my First Republic ATM card no longer works, even though Chase said it would until they send new cards, which they haven’t yet. So I couldn’t get cash for the Sunday farmers market, one of the few places I still need it.

A 1% problem, I know, but annoying.

New CBS News poll: Trump’s conviction didn’t change many voters’ minds. 56% say the trial was fair, 57% say the jury reached the right verdict, 51% say Trump is no longer fit to be president. But there’s a huge partisan split & very few Repubs who believed him before no longer do

I would caution about reading too much into Trump trial polling, but FWIW @Reuters/Ipsos reports 10% of Republicans say they’re less likely to vote for Trump now that he’s a convicted felon. 25% of independents say the same. Overall Biden leads Trump 41-39. Poll’s MOE is 2%.

As a Little League coach for the last 4 years (on migrant-free fields all over Northern California) I find this Trump claim especially bizarre…

Not that many people read newspapers in print anymore, but voters seeing headlines like these screaming at them from newsstands and street corner boxes all around the country will surely have some impact, even if it’s subconscious.

Donald Trump will be sentenced 4 days before the Republican National Convention opens in Milwaukee. That convention just became a lot more interesting to cover. Especially in a city where 26% of the people are Black.

A smart, and appropriate, reaction from the White House, via Ian Sams, speaking for the White House Counsel's office: 'We respect the rule of law, and have no additional comment.'

Does Trump lose the right to vote (for himself) in November now that he's a convicted felon? Not unless he is sent to prison.

In New York, felons only lose voting rights if they go to jail, and Florida only takes away voting rights if they are stripped in the convicting state.
