I have backed a motion to protect 21,127 pensioners in Torbay from the Winter Fuel Payment cut and set to quiz the Chancellor next week. An estimated 21,127 pensioners in Torbay are at risk of losing the £300 payment, which helps with heating bills in the cold winter months.

Local government whether its a metropolitan borough council or a parish council, is often a force for good in our communities across the UK. That's why it was a pleasure to attend the Liberal Democrats Local Government event this week and catch up with friends old and new.

The proposed closure of the Fleet Walk branch of Loyds in October was the subject of a meeting with myself and Lloyds representatives in Westminster. I fear Lloyds is not seeing how they can innovate to support our residents.

Many of the poorest countries in the world have a disportionate amount of their income servicing debts to big banks. This money should be spent on public services to help these countries.

Torbay has a high proportion of people on benefits renting private property. A Trussell Trust report found that 63% of people living in privately rented homes said the shortfall between benefits & their housing costs is impacting their ability to afford other day to day costs.
