Excellent speech by Steve Glazer, who has been gutsy, persistent & farsighted in his efforts to save local news. At minute 11 he rebuts the criticisms, including the absurd idea that this effort to create more local reporting jobs is a jobs killer. sd07.senate.ca.gov/video/senator-…
From @steve_Glazer's keynote on the future of Journalism at the Capitol Weekly forum: 'The foundation of our democracy has always rested in freedom of the press: People are led to authoritarian rule when the flow of information is limited.'

“But if the goal is to revive local journalism, it’s penny wise and pound-foolish to prioritize Google grants over policies that would produce far more revenue, newsroom jobs and independence.” -Editor and Publisher Brier Dudley Buffy Wicks editorandpublisher.com/stories/dont-l…
“Google’s moves, and Facebook’s earlier abandonment of its journalism grants, are the latest reminders that such support is transient. It may be weaponized when platforms aren’t getting their way.” Brier Dudley The Seattle Times Buffy Wicks seattletimes.com/opinion/dont-l…
