The best end of a working day is the submission of a manuscript about the physiology of deep-sea 🧽 from 🇳🇿 in collaboration with colleagues based in 🇩🇪, 🇳🇿, and 🇳🇱.

When I'm not reading physical books 📖 about deep-sea ecology, I'm in the lab processing invertebrate megabenthos. Today, in a team of 🇩🇪, 🇵🇹 (Lara Baptista ), 🇩🇿 female scientists at #NIOZ dissecting (freeze-dried) sea urchins from Iceland.

For my upcoming paper, I'm sitting in my office reading actual physical books 📚📖 about deep-sea ecology and biodiversity instead of PDFs of articles on my 🖥️ screen. So, I just realized that most scientific knowledge about deep-sea patterns is >30 yr old and needs an update.

Usually it's a nightmare to schedule a meeting and find a time and date when all participants are available. This year, I'm even struggling to receive timely feedback from all co-authors of my manuscripts 🙈🥴.

The changes to #WissZeitVG (specific labor law for researchers) the German government intends to implement will not only affect researchers based in 🇩🇪, but also international collaborations, because your colleagues will be forced out of science before the study is published.🙈

Me, needing ~10 years for my most important scientific paper (though, it took several 180deg turns in in terms of topic/ story).
Also me, checking hourly whether a co-author, who tries out some additional data analyses for that specific paper, has sent me new results. 🙈
