Unfortunately, 10yrs down the line after launching, implementation still lags behind and maternal deaths and injuries from unsafe abortion are still on the rise. It's time we fully implement the standards and guidelines.

Abortion access is provided for under article 26 (4). Where abortion is not permitted unless in the opinion of a trained health professional,need for emergency treatment,or the life or health of the mother is in danger,or if permitted by any other written law.

Despite the fact that the constitution provides a framework for legislative developments, guidelines such as the (Standard and guidelines on reducing maternal deaths and injuries from unsafe abortions) are not fully implemented, as we continue to witness an increase in abortions.

Article 26 (4) of the Constitution of #Kenya permits abortion on the following grounds:
🚑 there is need for emergency treatment
⚠️ the life or health of the mother is in danger
