Sad to hear this morning that Harry Howarth, 2KSLI, D-Day veteran has passed away aged 103 years old.

I’m happy that 7 weeks ago he was able to return to visit his Major for the first time in nearly 80 years.

We are saddened to share that Harry H has passed away aged 103 after a short spell in hospital. We were very honoured to be able to assist Harry, who had served in 2nd Batt. Kings Shropshire Light Infantry, when he visited the British Normandy Memorial earlier this year.

I think our veteran collection team enjoyed being mobbed at Tottenham Court Road today.

Today WWII veteran Mervyn Kersh is filming with BBC Newsround in Normandy for a piece about the 80th anniversary of D-Day. He will be travelling with us to France in June and we hope it’s warmer than it looks there today.
