Brigadier Azmi was subject to amongst the very worst human right violations imaginable, being kept secretly detained, disappeared for eight years. It is quite remarkable that he has survived this crushing ordeal and those responsible should be held to account. In his press

This short Al Jazeera documentary, following a photo journalist as he tries cover the protests taking place in Dhaka #Bangladesh on the day before Sheikh Hasina leaves the country, is riveting and takes you into the heart of the protests, by Elizabeth D. Costa youtube.com/watch?v=LqCkSr…

I am being told that the Dhaka Tribune 's reporting of some of what Azmi said was inaccurate. Going to get this checked and will remove/edit this tweet if this is the case.

It’s amazing how people believe what suits them. This is obviously an article full of disinformation, written by someone who has a history of writing a litany of similarly unsourced and unproved claims about #Bangladesh, but pro-Awami league people will lap this rubbish up.

There are two things I dont like about this tweet. first the simplistic binary between those editors who "should hold their heads high" and those who "acted as enablers and cheerleaders". It does not reflect reality at all. And secondly, the particular attack on two editors,

David Bergman (@thedavidbergman) 's Twitter Profile Photo

All political groupings, including BNP, Jammat, Hefazet, other Islamic parties must condemn this and urge their members and supporters to stop acting in this manner. It happened under Awami League, as well, but such conduct must be nipped in the bud.

David Bergman (@thedavidbergman) 's Twitter Profile Photo

You refer to two articles by Mahfuz Anam which are supposedly "emblematic of how the media became lapdogs of the Awami regime". The second one, "Why was Abu Sayed shot dead in cold blood?", is a good piece of excoriating writing for which Anam was famous for, finding no excuse

David Bergman (@thedavidbergman) 's Twitter Profile Photo

Both are actually true. Some Awami Leaguers may be "brave" enough to continue to be the old aggressive party. But many more are in hiding or keeping very very quiet.

This is a good piece of sleuthing by Sami on the property owned in the UK by the sons of Beximco's Salman Rahman. And the level of $3billion (Tk 36,865 crore) unpaid loans that it it is reported his companies owes Bangladesh banks is simply staggering. Nonetheless,

The appointment of Tajul Islam as chief prosecutor to the International Crimes Tribunal (ICT) is a terrible decision by the new interim government for a number of reasons, suggesting that it has learnt absolutely nothing from previous experience of the ICT and is not interested

David Bergman (@thedavidbergman) 's Twitter Profile Photo

Yes, this is not a view about Tajul Islam’s legal talents or otherwise. It is about his political partisanship and why his prior involvement as a key party in all the political shenanigans of the ICT renders him unsuitable for this post as Chief Prosecutor.
