For what we spend on locking them up for a week (that comes with all that trauma), could be spent to provide safe housing to their entire family for a month.

When your city is willing to spend considerable budget dollars jailing children who are outside after curfew but can’t find the money to pay children in the summer employment program more than $6.25-9/ hour, the city’s decision makers don’t care about those children’s well-being.

I’m 14 minutes our city will exercise surveillance over safety, detention over prevention. It cost our city roughly $600 to keep youth locked up/day. 104 youth were locked up 7/24-8/8. Imagine if those funds were given directly to family or community org to change circumstances?
