Cassius Dio mentions of the Emperor Caracalla that 'he also invented a costume of his own, which was made in a rather foreign fashion out of small pieces of cloth sewed together into a kind of cloak.' This was called a Caracallus from where we get the nickname Caracalla.

Claudia Octavia, daughter of Emperor Claudius & wife of Emperor Nero, was killed on 8th June AD62, aged 22. Nero had banished her after his future wife, Poppaea became pregnant. Octavia was popular & people protested for her return so Nero had her killed.

The Eastern Roman Emperor, Theodosius II, married Aelia Eudocia on 7th June AD421. She was 20 & he was 19. She was born in Athens & upon marrying, converted to Christianity. She was later declared a saint. The mosaic of her is from the Alexander Nevsky Cathedral, Sofia, Bulgaria

The Ludi Piscatori was celebrated in honour of Father Tiber by the fishermen of Rome.
All fish that were caught on this day were sacrificed to Vulcan in his temple, located on the slopes of the Capitoline Hill. According to Ovid the celebrations took place in Campus Martius.

This Roman bronze figure of Jupiter was found in & is now in British Museum The detailing of the face is exquisite & is thought to have inspired the design for the 1896 Olympics winner medals (pictured). This statue dates to the 1st-2nd century AD and is 17.7 cm high.
