After CA implemented heat rules, the rate of kidney disease in farm workers declined dramatically even as heat waves intensified.

“It isn’t just about getting up and not dying that day. It’s about how the nature of that work shortens your life.” naplesnews.com/story/news/202…

Farm workers are essential––yet a lack of protections often leaves them vulnerable to wage theft, human trafficking, & other harm.

I applaud U.S. Department of Labor for publishing new regulations to strengthen and expand their workplace rights.

Maine leads? I don't think so. For the fourth time Governor Janet Mills vetoes a bill that would improve the lives of those who feed us. For those keeping score, she is now 4 for 4 in that regard!

People should not be exposed to many of these pesticides at all (in any amount) but consumers are exposed to trace amounts compared to the farm workers applying them.

A Florida labor contractor faces penalties for the death of an H2A worker who was killed by heat harvesting sugarcane. It was 97° in that open field. It was his first day.

The employer is facing $27k in fines, about $1000 for each year of his short life.

After Texas banned heat protections, a record number of workers were killed by heat. It will be in the 90s in much of TX this week. It’s only April.

Now Florida has banned protections. It’s in the 80s this week, with humidity making it more dangerous. 2024 heat will be brutal.

Despicable. Ron Desantis has signed the bill banning heat protections for outdoor workers.

Last year, the first heat death reported to OSHA was January 1. That farm worker was killed in Florida. wfla.com/news/florida/d…
