Nuseirat refugee camp is the epicentre of the seismic trauma that civilians in #Gaza continue to suffer. As 4 hostages are reunited with their families, scores are still being held captive. All of them must be released. Each day this war continues, it only grows more horrific.

The escalating violence in #Sudan's Al Fasher is dealing a crushing blow to civilians at their most vulnerable. I am horrified by news of the RSF attack on South Hospital. The fighting, looting and atrocities we are seeing in Sudan over and over again – they must stop now.

Humanitarians have reached 950K people in #Myanmar so far in 2024, but with the response plan only 12% funded, many have not received the comprehensive support they require. With 18.6M people needing assistance, I call on the international community to urgently increase support.

I had the honour of briefing on the outcomes of the Urgent Humanitarian Response for Gaza High-Level Conference co-hosted by #Jordan, #Egypt & United Nations. A permanent ceasefire is crucial. Humanitarian aid must enter #Gaza unobstructed to effectively address urgent needs. #ActionforGaza

Famine in the 21st century is a preventable scourge.   #G7 leaders can and must wield their influence to help stop it.   Nowhere is the choice between inaction and oblivion so clear as in #Gaza and #Sudan.   Read my statement: unocha.org/news/g7-leader…

Another year with the humanitarian system stretched to its limits. Despite enormous challenges, we reached over 128M people. This underscores our community's incredible determination, dedication and ingenuity. ▶️ See how we're revitalizing our response: bit.ly/3z2R0UQ

The world's eyes are on Al Fasher, #Sudan – where the humanitarian nightmare is worsening by the hour. I hope today's Security Council resolution will ease the suffering of civilians there. They must be protected, aid must be able to reach them, and the fighting must stop now.

We take pride in CERF - The UN's emergency fund's unmatched agility, making us one of the fastest responders to crises. Its focus on early action, community resilience and accountability is crucial as resources dwindle and challenges mount. We rely on our donors' support as we #InvestInHumanity.

I have spent much of my career in or on the edges of war zones, but nothing quite prepared me for the breadth and depth of human suffering I have witnessed in my three years as the United Nations’ humanitarian chief. My guest essay in The New York Times: nytimes.com/2024/06/17/opi…

Testaments from Mamadou and many others are why we launched the Flagship Initiative. People want to shape their own future. It’s time to listen better and let local communities guide our humanitarian response and action. bit.ly/4bvpEF5

Acute malnutrition is increasing rapidly in northeast #Nigeria and food insecurity has reached the highest level in 7 years. To provide immediate support to the most vulnerable, I’ve allocated $11 million from CERF - The UN's emergency fund. This is a start - more support is needed.

We are not abandoning the people of #Gaza. But we fail them every time we’re not able to get aid to those who need it. We need safety and security – for this, we need all hands on deck. My interview with UN News: bit.ly/4cDJmz6

Thank you, Martin, for joining us virtually at World Food Programme to discuss the many humanitarian challenges that lay ahead, and how United Nations agencies like ours will continue to make a difference. It has been a privilege to serve with you. Thank you for your wisdom, compassion & friendship.

A sobering assessment from @theipcinfo on #Sudan. Food insecurity is the worst it's ever been in the country. Over 25M people face high levels of acute hunger, including 755K in catastrophic conditions and 8.5M in emergency levels. This could have been avoided.

She can, and she did. Thank you Marina Marina Abramović for the reminder that, across the world and with no cultural barriers, we all care enough to stop. And to think. As people in Sudan, Gaza, Haiti and elsewhere continue to face daily horrors, that’s the least we can do.
