What a pitch-perfect take. Specifically for genome editing - the goal is to provide the Agency with specific reductions to practice of this high-level concept. It is not easy. But. It can and will be done.

The reality-adjusted title of this piece by Adam Feuerstein ✡️ is: "The Business of One CRISPR Medicine Developed In 2016 Using 2009-Style Delivery Is Not Great 8 Months After Its Approval" = a LOT will change in next 5 years statnews.com/2024/08/15/cri…

In what way is the acronym "CRISPR" like the word "turnpike"? Nothing about their actual meaning has anything to do with the way the words are used today. "Clustered regularly interspaced short palindromic repeats" has zero semantic overlap with gene editing. As for turnpike:

Is there room for human #CRISPR gene editing beyond treating existing disease? We need answers soon based on progress in the field. Antonio Regalado's piece provides serious food for thought here. Read and feel your heart rate rise - in a good way. technologyreview.com/2024/08/22/109…

If I were confined to offer folks starting in my lab just one book to read - it would be Living Medicine. It combines the biology and clinical side of immune disease with a magnificent narrative of how bone marrow transplantation was developed to treat it.

Do you know the "you know you make me wanna shout!" song? Would you like to start singing it loudly and with joy? Read this. I did and am giving the Isley Brothers a run for their money. Sam Sternberg science.org/doi/10.1126/sc…

Superb reply to "what is the difference between genetics and genomics." The beauty of genetics 1866-1953 is it did not even need DNA to be powerful and insightful!

I am not a biochemist by training but after 29 years' teaching the TCA I have the classroom cred to say: what a missed opportunity to have the two sugar-derived carbons that enter it as acetyl-CoA be visualized as they get oxidized! This will NOT win the Edward Tufte prize.

In the movie "A Friend," which premiered at #TFF2024, Naomi Watts brings to life a beautiful person of exquisite humanity, decency, vulnerability, and integrity despite all odds. Of relevant note, her character went to UC Berkeley. ❤️ hollywoodreporter.com/movies/movie-r…

Mikey Madison's character in "Anora" will float off the screen and into your heart. What a magnificent, affecting, deeply human performance (and what an ensemble cast)! awardsradar.com/2024/08/31/tel…

No words exist - nor are necessary - to describe Saiorse Ronan's performance in this film. If you choose to see it - you will understand. It will haunt and inspire you for life. #TFF2024

A CRISPR therapy is made by chemical synthesis. Dr. Marks correctly points out that this lends itself to platformization. Building such a platform is the goal of the Innovative Genomics Institute Danaher Corporation Beacon for CRISPR Cures. (but perhaps Sweetgreens, not McDonalds) endpts.com/cber-chief-for…

He(rostratus) is demanding his "manuscript" be published in Nature/Science. I co-named genome editing, co-developed its toolbox, and led the discovery of the target edited in Casgevy. From that vantage point I can state He's "work" is pitiful garbage. technologyreview.com/2019/12/03/131…
