Actually unbelievable: '...in 2023 it was ruled that under the terms of their lease, the ground rent could increase to £2,350 and be backdated to 2018.'

I’m totally in favour of rent control, so long as it comes with housing supply policies that ensure it doesn’t bind…

Not true. If combined with supply this wouldn’t happen. Lots of bad commentary about rent regulation on the left and the right tbh. Many studies out of date. Entrenched positions getting deeper.

In any case, landlords selling not inherently bad. Their assets (people’s homes) won’t disappear. They’ll be bought by someone else. Possibly someone who be an owner occupier. Problem is eviction of vulnerable renters & those on low/middle incomes who can’t buy.

I don’t think there is concrete evidence that landlords are selling up in huge numbers - but if anyone has it, I’d love to see it. Please do send.
