The 2024 Virtues & Vocations Conference wrapped up yesterday w/: ▶️ A discussion on virtue, democracy, & civil discourse on campus w/ Roosevelt Montas, Eric Mlyn Ph.D., & John Silvanus Wilson ▶️ A closing keynote by Michael Sandel, who then signed copies of “The Tyranny of Merit” 1/🧵
Virtues & Vocations Roosevelt Montas Eric Mlyn Ph.D. Sandel discussed the dark side of meritocracy, a system which leads to hubris for those who succeed and humiliation for those who fail, and when applied to the “sorting machine” of higher education, does damage to both those sorted out and sorted in. 2/🧵
