In the areas worst hit by the August floods, WFP teams are on the ground, delivering vital food assistance to families stranded in shelters. Today, we reached Noakhali, following Cumilla & Feni. By weekend, we aim to assist 300,000 people w/ easy-to-use, nutrient-dense biscuits.

Our recent efforts to deliver vital supplies to the flood-affected individuals in #Bangladesh were hindered by severe weather, flooding & challenging roads. But UN in Bangladesh staff overcame these obstacles, demonstrating their resilience & commitment to assisting those in need.

“I have never seen a flood this severe in my lifetime." Mohammad & his family lost nearly everything they had worked so hard for. They are among the 5 million people affected by the August floods. WFP has provided vital food aid to him & many others but the needs remain high.

Together with our NGO partners, WFP staff are on the ground in the areas worst affected by the August floods. Over the past week, they've reached over 100,000 people—many of them women, children, and older people in emergency shelters—with critical food aid.

Polly and her children are among the 30,000 families WFP has reached with vital food assistance this past week. With hundreds of thousands still in shelters and 1.2 million marooned by floods, the needs remain immense in this unprecedented crisis.

Prianka from WFP's M&E team has been at the forefront of our flood response in #Noakhali. "This area hadn't faced floods for decades, so communities were unprepared," she witnessed. With tractors & boats, Prianka & NGO CODEC have reached many families with vital food aid 🍪.

Once a bustling high school, M. A. Ali High School in Noakhali now shelters hundreds of families fleeing the worst floods in decades. WFP is providing fortified biscuits as emergency aid and will continue supporting their recovery and rebuilding efforts. 🍪

Since 25 Aug, WFP teams have been on the ground, reaching families devastated by floods. "1 million people are affected in Feni alone," said Mahmudul. To date, Mahmudul and our colleagues have reached 600,000 people stranded in shelters or flooded areas with fortified biscuits

The August floods have devastated southeast & northeast Bangladesh. In Noakhali, floodwaters are receding, but the impact on supply chains is clear-families can’t afford meat, chicken, or fish & basic items cost 15-20 Taka more. WFP will continue its support to help them recover.

Today, WFP began 2nd phase of its flood response. 2,300 women received a cash transfer of BDT 6,000 (US$50) each. Leveraging gov't social protection systems, WFP is reaching a total of 106,000 women in the worst-affected Feni, Cumilla, Noakhali, Laxmipur & Moulvibazar districts.
