This heifer needed a little tlc after an intervention at calving last week. Handy having this catcher and using a fence reel to guide her in quietly. Saved a bit of running about.

Cows finally finding some grass. Mobing up quicker this year as calfing has had a very fast start, 87 out of 122 (71%) in the 1st 14 days

Very clever lapwing has thankfully laid its eggs next to a wet spot so I could easily spot it. Let's hope the gulls and the 4 buzzards going about don't spot it. Left big bit round it so not as easy spotted. ๐Ÿคž

As much as its been a sodden wet winter, most of our winter oats have thrived well in it. Never seen growth like it and so clean. This field will have absolutely nothing done to it between sowing and harvest. No tramlines

Horrendous weather still but the daily moves continue. Will it dry up enough for round 2? (Will it ever dry up ๐Ÿ™)

Happy Easter! Everything is enjoying the sun today. Skylarks cheeping away ๐Ÿ“ข. Deer were weaned on Thursday and are all settled. Think both groups were happy to get some peace from each other ๐ŸŒž

Maybe the sun went to my head today but all the young cattle got turned out this afternoon. They will be moving a whole field per day and get them round most of the farm in the next few weeks. Plenty grass to eat just have to make sure they don't sink trying to eat it ๐Ÿ™ˆ

๐Ÿ‚๐ŸŒพ The Mitchells run PfL certified Whitriggs Farm in the Scottish Borders. They have made bale grazing that little bit easier by designing a roller. If you were at Groundswell last year, youโ€™d have seen the roller outside our tent...1/3

Heifer (1st & 2nd calvers) mob finished their bale grazing this week. Gained an extra month on last year so only going to be in for 6 wks. Bvd vaccine on the route. Unless there is any nonsense at calving time these shouldnt be handled again until scanning/weaning in November

Edinvale Farm ๐ŸŒฑ๐Ÿ‚ Aside from that
They are the healthiest calves I have bred (so far)
No pneumonia
No antibiotics
Nothing shoved down their necks
No injections
No straw used
Young grass tidied up without damage
No mucking out
But miserable at times for stockman
