There's been some gory goings on in the tree nursery this #Halloween 😱🎃👻🧌
Our team have been gathering guelder rose berries and processing them to get the seeds out, so they can grow more to plant out on the fells. It leaves the polytunnel looking a bit like a crime scene!
Look at the colours of these young rowan trees in our nursery😍When they're grown up,they'll be planted out on the fells here at #Haweswater as part of our #LandscapeRestoration work. Some will be planted in #CelebrationWood . What's your favourite leaf?

Kingfisher fact: there is not a single scrap of blue pigment in their feathers 🪶
Specially modified layers of cells scatter light - making a kingfisher's colouring appear more vibrant than it is.

Thank you to Wild Haweswater for a great visit today with the Fix the Fells Ranger team. We really enjoyed hearing all about your activities and seeing some of the great results. Glad you joined us for our end of season pie and pea lunch too!
Yesterday Rishi Sunak spoke proudly of the “landmark” Environment Act and said there was a “clear plan to deliver”. The first test of this is next Monday, when the UK Government is legally required to publish its targets for nature. Read on... 1/8
Our livestock team recently brought our sheep across from our farm at Swindale,to our farm at Naddle, for their checks & dipping. The flock here are involved in a regenerative grazing trial where they're moved around the fields in Swindale regularly #FarmingFriday

Marsh Fritillary were once widespread in the UK but their numbers have declined massively. Their main habitats are damp, chalk and coastal grasslands with some temporarily visiting woodland clearings as they seek out scabious plants to feed on. #Autumnwatch BBC Springwatch
There's been so much red squirrel action around Naddle Forest recently. They're making the most of this year's plentiful supply of nuts, fungi & berries. Residential volunteer Hope recently spotted this little cutie tucking in above her head. #Autumnwatch

Great to show the brilliant team from fixthefells around #Haweswater today. Talking all things #LandscapeRestoration . The pie and peas in Bampton Village Hall afterwards was much appreciated after a soggy walk to see bog restoration on Mardale Common #ThankYou NT Fell Rangers
It's been another busy week of tree planting in #CelebrationWood with our wardens helping Celebration Wood Officer Bea, get the celebration trees into their new home🌳 #WardenWednesday .

Great to hear Rishi Sunak mention “protecting our environment” in his first speech as Prime Minister. 💚🙏
Yesterday we published “A World Richer in Nature” - let’s have a look at what protecting our environment means for wildlife in England. 🧵
There’s never a quiet moment in the nursery! Our fab team of #volunteers have been processing berries to extract the seeds. They are potted up to germinate & when big enough they’re planted out on the fells at #Haweswater .
