Think and Act F.A.S.T. if you see any signs of a stroke:

Face – has their face fallen on one side? Can they smile?
Arms – can they raise both arms and keep them there?
Speech – is their speech slurred?
Time – even if you’re not sure, call 999.

All the best to Team Leader Liz who has retired after 39 years in the ambulance service. Colleagues gathered to wish her well & reminisce over old times including when she met Princess Diana in 1985 when she was the youngest cadet at West Yorkshire Metropolitan Ambulance Service.

Good news! Over 7,000 defibrillators in Yorkshire and the Humber are now registered on The Circuit to save the lives of people in cardiac arrest. Last month our 999 call handlers activated more defibrillators than ever before - 1,368 to be precise!

A cardiac arrest can happen anywhere. If you witness one, you must call 999 and start CPR straight away, remember:

Rate - 2 compressions per second
Depth - push 5 to 6cm down on the chest
Don't stop - until help arrives or the patient regains consciousness
