Because Thomas Malory wrote the best King Arthur story ever. There's more in it than you think. ✒

Over the moon that Rees Mogg has gone. Saddened but not surprised by Farage, glad the Tories are out, not a fan of Starmer but in other news:

I have a small account, but when I first arrived on twitter Ursula Doyle was the first person kind enough to follow me. Well, you never forget your first, and I stand with her on this.

Here's a thought: if Merlin was a magician worth his salt he'd have advised Arthur not to marry Gwenyfer because she would not be able to give him that all-important heir. Instead he fixates on her relationship with Lancelot; a need for male control over wayward women perhaps?

A halo of fire from which rays of light pour, a book fastened with buckles and a gold chalice. Details in the background suggest water and light. Any ideas?

New Thames Pathway Creation at Lower Shiplake is still a work in progress, as we discovered today. This was one of those occasions when Thames Path National Trail 's splendid interactive map wasn't going to help. Another detour, suggest if you're walking this keep to the old path for now.

I've always found the story of the sword bridge so hard to understand; the water bridge crops up in other traditions of crannogs but I find the idea of crossing a knife-edge blade utterly bizarre.

Love this. I love the fact that so much of the King Arthur story is rooted in specific places across the UK. It's like a conversation between the land and the people who live there.

I prefer my unicorns wild and free, and always found this image slightly depressing. But no doubt it answers a need to circumscribe and control the magical aspects of our lives.
