A reminder of the depth of discord in an institution that sees one of its roles as acting as a symbol of unity.    The talk is of the King’s “full programme” and the pair meeting “soon”.    The reality is that a father, recovering from cancer, can’t find  time to see his son.

We're marking the 80th anniversary of D-Day. These are pictures of that day, enhanced by the artist Maria Amaral, to the poem 'The Longest Day', read by Royal Engineer Commando Harry Billinge. Unlike many of his friends Harry survived D-Day and died at the age of 96.

june kelly left BBC News (UK) tonight. I’ve never seen such affection and respect for a colleague at a works farewell do. Wonderful. It’s because June is a brilliant journalist, but more than that, an extraordinary person.

Said the fondest of farewells to one of our best colleagues june kelly as she left BBC News (UK) last night. The room was full of love and respect from a brilliant bunch of people for a very fine journalist. Thank you June x

Royal non disclosure triumphs over transparency . William’s obsession with privacy trumps any concerns as to how this may look. The absence of answers to basic questions could prove unsustainable in the years ahead.

The money King Charles receives from the Duchy of Lancaster is £27.35m, an increase of 4.5%. There is no public scrutiny of how it is spent because it is regarded as private income: duchyoflancaster.co.uk/financial/fina…

Today is a joyous day. There are many people who played a part in the safe return of our colleague Evan Gershkovich, and today I thank them wholeheartedly. My greatest thanks, though, must go to Evan himself. Read my letter in full wsj.com/world/emma-tuc…

Frank #Worrell would have been 100 today. He never made his half-century but in his brief but brilliant life, the great Black captain of the West Indies left a legacy that endures. We marked his special day on BBC Radio 4 Today with Amol Rajan and Emma Barnett

We have a silent head of state. The palace spin talks of bridge building in private. Charles is meant to be a unifying figure who champions religious tolerance and mutual respect. Yet he’s said nothing about racism and rioting. It’s an untenable position. If not now, when?

It’s taken 10 days for the King, who prides himself on being a symbol of national unity, to comment.    In doing so, Charles hasn’t called out the racism and Islamophobia.    To remain relevant, his officials will need to be more fleet of foot in the future.
