The two defining events of early 21st century Europe: Syrzia's capitulation to the Troika and Gordon Brown's capitulation to Gillian Duffy. #maiconsalvini

Obvz #MayMustGo & I <3 JCorbs but after #GrenfellTower we need more than to look to leaders to save us. Our democracy isn't fit for purpose.

Our local democracy is neither local nor democratic. The people of #GrenfellTower knew where the problems lay, where money should been spent

Grenfell residents were denied the power to make decisions to keep themselves safe. Our councils are too big, too distant, too unaccountable

Local democracy in the UK is abnormal. Ratio of voters to councillors- France: 1 to 125 Germany: 1 to 400 UK: 1 to 2860 London: 1 to 4045

In a true local democracy, tower blocks like Grenfell would be home to at least 1 councillor. Would be governed by the people living there.

Estates like the Heygate would be an entire council by itself! 3000 people living together democratically deciding what's best for them.

Instead we get giant councils covering 300,000 people hiding behind outsourced management companies. It's time to democratise this country.

Scotland's space industry has an annual turnover of Β£2.5bn. Here's the extent of what the Dept for Exiting the EU's excruciatingly detailed sectoral report on space had to say about it:

My dad volunteers for a hiking path maintenance group once every fortnight with a few other local retirees. His gf always complained when he couldn't remember any island gossip picked up from the old yins so now they keep notes and self publish a biweekly newsletter I guess.
