In 2014, Harper, federal income tax on $100k = 26%. In 2023, Trudeau, federal income tax on $100k = 22.5%. In 2023 basic deduction was $15k, so net income BEFORE ANY OTHER DEDUCTIONS was $85k, taxed at 22.5% = $17,425 in federal tax, IOW an effective tax rate of 17.425% (not 40%)
