Lazare Grigoriadis, 22, was sentenced to 9 years in prison in connection to last year's March protests, for allegedly attacking police officer & destruction of property. Many see the ruling as part of an effort to instill fear in the youth, to prevent them from taking the street.

35 years ago today, Soviet army violently crushed peaceful demonstration in Tbilisi. April 9 marked the beginning of protest wave against the Soviet Union and Georgian struggle for independence. Soviets killed 21 demonstrators, injured many and used prohibited military gas.

The Georgian government reintroduced Russian style foreign agent law that led to widespread protests last year this time, then the Georgian Dream withdraw the draft. Last December, the EU granted Georgia candidate status, boosting ruling party’s standing and now they get this.
